The night of the signed guitar

The 17th Gala Starlite Occident left an Experience auctioned for the Fundación Starlite, a signed guitar that was played on the spot and a whole night off script.

There are nights that get organised and nights that simply happen. The 17th Gala Starlite was one of the second kind.

I was bringing more than a party mood. My Experience went to the charity auction: a dinner with me at Los Gabrieles, the tiled tavern where the flamenco of Madrid has been sleeping for a century. It found a buyer and every euro went to the projects of the Fundación Starlite. That is what I had come for.

The rest happened on its own. Bertín Osborne walked up to the top table to sing Fly Me to the Moon to Michael Bublé, and the two of them ended up singing together.

Someone put a guitar in front of me and I signed it with Michael and with Plácido Domingo. Melendi and Miguel Poveda played it right there, no score and no permission. That is how real things sound.

At midnight Plácido sang a happy birthday. Estrella Morente climbed on stage with Los Alpresa because her body asked her to.

I have spent half my life on stages and it still happens to me: what I take home is always whatever nobody had rehearsed.
